Kenya is an African country in the eastern part of the African continent. It is best known for its long distance marathon athletes and as the home to the big five game – the lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant. It is one of the most visited countries on the African continent by tourists.

There are over 42 different ethnic tribes in Kenya all with their different traditions and cultures. The official languages spoken in Kenya are English and Swahili. By the time you will be leaving Kenya you will have learnt a few swahili words. Most common swahili words are Jambo or Habari yako meaning how are you!

The Weather

Kenya enjoys a tropical climate. It is hot and humid at the coast, temperate inland and very dry in the north and northeast parts.

There is plenty of sunshine all the year round and summer clothes are worn throughout the year. However, it is usually cool at night and early in the morning.
The long rains occur from April to June and short rains from October to December. The rainfall is sometimes heavy and when it does come it often falls in the afternoons and evenings. The hottest period is from February to March and coldest in July to August.
