Masai Mara National Reserve is Kenya’s finest wildlife reserve. Everything about this reserve is outstanding. The wildlife is abundant and the gentle rolling grasslands ensure that animals are never out of sight. Birds, too, are prolific. Including migrants, well over 450 species have been recorded, among them, 57 species of birds of prey.
The climate is gentle, rarely too hot and well-spread rainfall year round. Rain, when it falls almost always chooses the late afternoon or night. Between July and October, when the great wildebeest migration is in the Masai Mara National Reserve, the sensation is unparalleled. Masai Mara is one of the best plains’ game reserve where you can actually encounter a live Discovery Channel, a haven for viewing a congregation of all sorts of animals in a five-mile radius: A pride of lions can be spotted ready to make a run for the herd of buffalos. The Great Wildebeest Migration is one of the “Seven New Wonders of the World".

The ecosystem of Mara is unique. It has large open grassland plains that are covered by dispersed acacia woodlands and dense thickets of scrub that are soaked by the permanent rivers in Mara namely Mara River, Talek River and Sand River. The rivers have been able to provide a different habitat that is plains, riverine forest and swamps and not forgetting the beautiful scenery. This spectacular grassland covers 392sq.km. The park is bordered on the western and eastern side by the Oloololo escarpment and the Loita Hills respectively.
There is a large choice of accommodation from lodges to camping sites in and around the game reserve. It is advisable to select your safari time carefully because of the overcrowding of tourists are the reserve

How to Get to Masai Mara Reserve
By Road: It is 267km from Nairobi, It takes about 4 or 5 hours drive by road
By Air: There are 5 airstrips in Masai Mara serving the numerous lodges and camps. It takes about 45 mins from Nairobi's wilson airport to the Mara airstrips.
