Mount Kenya is the second highest mountain in Africa and the highest mountain in Kenya. The mountain is located in Mount Kenya National Park. It stands at 5,199m. It is one of the most impressive landscapes in East Africa with its rugged glacier clad summits. alt In 1997 it was inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Mount Kenya is an important water tower for the country. It provides water to about 50% of the population and produces about 70% of Kenya’s hydroelectric power.

Major attractions in the park are Pristine wilderness, lakes, tarns, glaciers and peaks of great beauty, geological variety, forest, mineral springs, rare and endangered species of animals, High altitude adapted plains game, Unique montane and alpine vegetation with 11 species of endemic plants. For wildlife you are bound to see Elephants, tree hyrax, white tailed mongoose, suni, black fronted duiker, mole rat, bushbucks, water buck and Elands. Animas rarely seen include leopard, bongo, giant forest hog and rhino. There has been recorded 130 species of birds.
