Tsavo East National Park is also known as the “theatre of the wild”. It is considered to be one of the last remaining of wilderness and biodiversity strongholds on earth. It lies to the east of Nairobi-Mombasa road and has an untapped arena of arid bush. It is about 13,747 square kms making it the larger of the two Tsavo National Parks. Most of the park consists of semi arid grasslands and savannah. This is a natural area of flat dry plains with thorny bushes and swampy marshland near the river. It is teeming with diverse Kenyan animals.
Not the entire park is open to the public. Some areas are designated as remote animal wilderness for the animals. This does not influence the massive area that the visitors can tour around the park. There are several pools and dams that are used by the animals as watering holes thus making it easier to spot the animals during your game drive.
The park is a must for professional photographers for its landscapes, its lighting and is famous for its large herds of big mammals (such as elephants, buffalos and lions).
